About Pictor Academy
Pictor Academy is a Community Special school in the Sovereign Trust
Pictor Academy caters for children aged 2 – 11 with special educational needs arising from a range of conditions. A large number of pupils have an autistic spectrum disorder. This means that they have difficulties communicating and interacting with others. They will also have difficulties with play and imagination. Some of our pupils have physical difficulties whilst others may have a language disorder or have a general developmental delay.
All our pupils have difficulties accessing education and need to work in smaller class groups with a high level of specialist staff from Education, Speech and Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and the School Nursing Service.
Each pupil at Pictor has an individual programme including activities that are designed to encourage them to make good progress across all areas and achieve their full potential. Programmes include specialist approaches and resources to help them do this.
History
Pictor School opened in 1971 to meet the needs of pupils with physical difficulties. At this time the school was based in two Victorian houses on Harboro Road, Sale. Prior to this the premises had been used by the Sale and Altrincham District Spastics Society to provide day and respite care for children with physical difficulties.
The respite care moved to the building next door, where it remains today as ‘Stockdales’. In September 2003 Pictor School moved from the Harboro Road site to a new purpose built school building in Timperley.
